“Educational science and its crises”
In this lecture, the development of educational science will be examined – with the intention of analyzing the current challenges of educational science by looking back at previous “crises” and crisis management. The concept of crisis has been a constant companion in the development of educational science and can be seen as an expression of the high reflexivity of the discipline, as part of the professional “rattling” that is part of the craft as well as an expression of a certain disciplinary mawkishness. Thus, Heinz Tenorth’s 1992 figure “Laute Klage, stiller Sieg” serves to orient the contribution.
In terms of content, the lecture takes a look at the development of study programs in educational science, especially the changeover to consecutive study structures. Staffing at universities and its regulation, as well as the position of educational science in the upswing of empirical educational research, have also frequently been associated with the concept of crisis. And also in profession-related questions of educational science, references to the topic of crisis can be found, e.g. in the struggle for pedagogical professionalism, in the question of the success of labour market integration as well as in the current shortage of specialists in school and extracurricular fields. As a basis for the argumentation, references to the data report on educational science are included.
