Selection process of the programme commission

A total of 372 contributions were submitted for the 2024 Congress: 108 symposia, 104 working groups and 64 research and thematic forums as well as 94 individual contributions for thematic forums. This is more contributions than in previous years, which is also due to the digital format of the last Congress. For each contribution, three reviewers, nominated by the section spokespersons, were selected to independently write a review. An average score was calculated on the basis of the three evaluations, which, in addition to free texts, also include point scores – which are only visible to the programme commission. All contributions with a score of 71 points and/or more could be accepted by the programme commission for presentation at the 29th GERA Congress. Reviews whose scores diverged greatly, which were submitted without written feedback or for whose preparation the jacket abstract was not downloaded, were reviewed separately by the programme commission, supplemented by further reviews if necessary.

Of the 108 symposia submitted, 66 were admitted, of 104 working groups 78 were admitted. Of 64 research and thematic forums submitted, 41 were admitted, of the 94 individual contributions submitted, 40 were admitted. Papers with a score between 60 and < 71 points are noted as moving up. In the event of a move-up, points will be awarded; if several contributions have the same number of points, the decision will be made by drawing lots.

Contributors can view the evaluation of their submission(s) by the reviewers in text form via their user account on ConfTool.

As in previous years, the spatial situation of the MLU Halle allows 40 parallel panels to be held. In order to ensure the acceptance of as many of the contributions submitted in the different formats as possible, the GERA Board has agreed to the proposal of the Programme Commission to dispense with specific time slots for different formats.

The GERA Board has confirmed the procedure and recommendations of the Programme Commission with regard to the review process for paper submissions for the Call for Papers of the 29th GERA Congress.
